The Government announced the gallantry award to IAF pilots who participated in the airstrike of Balakot to give lesson and revenge of Pulwama attack on soldiers .
Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman and Balakot pilots are nominated for the top military honours for their bravery.
WC ABhinandan will be awarded by Vir Chakra and the other pilots will be awarded by Vayu Sena Medal.
Wind commander Abhinandan shot down Pakistan’s F-16 combat jet during an aerial dogfight on February 27. He was captured by Pakistan army, and released after 60 hours.
About Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman
- He was born on 21st June 1983

- His father i retired Air Marshal and mother is a doctor by profession
- He was flying MiG-21 as the part of the mission of Balakot attack
- He was captured tortured and released by Pakistan army after 60 hours of captive
