Recently LokSabha passes the Citizenship Amendment bill as to grant Indian citizenship to the non Muslims Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhist, Jains and Parsis from Afghanistan , Bangladesh and Pakistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
Similarly LokSabha passes another bill which proposes to extend SC-ST reservation quota.
The bill got 352 votes in favour of bill while no votes is against the bill. The bill proposes the extension of reservation for SC- ST while there is no proposal for the extention of Anglo Indian Community.
Feature of SC ST reservation quota bill
- Prior to the amendment bill Indian Constitution provides reservation to the SC-ST community.
- The provision schedule in the Constitution is for the extent of 70 years which expires on 25 January 2020.
- The (126th) amendment bill proposes an extension of 10 years of SC-ST reservation quota.
- However, there is no extension proposes for Anglo – Indian Community which is also expires on January 25.
- Government justifies action of not granting extension of reservation to Anglo Indian community as there is only 286 members in the country.
- Hence , there is no proposal of extenting reservation for Anglo Indian.
- The reservation of the SC-ST is constituted in Article 334 which states that the reservation given to Anglo Indian community and also to SC-ST will come to an end after 40 years. This provision was added in the year 1949.
- Therefore the bill proposes the extension of reservation quota for 10 years.
