And the answer to this question is NO. Services Selection Board judges everyone on a true unbiased platform where army brats get no special privilege. SSB interviews are same for all. They do not see whether a child has a defence background or not. They just see your abilities and whether you are capable of becoming an officer or not.
Indian armed forces don’t give preferences to any type of quota, reservation. SSB judges one’s OLQ’s (Officer like qualities). This is a point where defence children may be better than others since these qualities come to them by default because they are brought up in that manner.
Moreover if the interviewer knows that you belong to a defence background, then the interview is going to be tougher on the whole since they would expect you to know everything – all the uniforms, ranks, different branches, full forms etc.
There are defence background kids who don’t make it, so it proves well enough that OLQ’s are important not the background.
The defence background kids have a certain advantage that they have been living in that atmosphere since childhood, so it comes naturally to them. It is easy for them to pick up with the OLQ’s as they have been seeing their parents. It is also easy for them to know about the forces, as again they have been living in that atmosphere since so long.
