In the history of our nation, there were soo many soldiers who wrote their names with golden letters in the pages of Indian History who laid their lives without any hesitation and selfishness. They are the true role models to be inspired by our youngsters, children and aspirants who want to serve in armed forces.
Captain Anuj Nayyar was one of them. Let us know about his life. He was born on 28 August 1975 in Delhi and complete his schooling from Delhi only. He is father S.K. Nayyar was a visiting professor in Delhi School of Economics while her mother Meena worked for the South Campus library of Delhi University. He completed his graduation from NDA and commissioned into 17th Battalion of the Jat Regiment in June 1997.
A GIST OF WAR WHICH MADE HIM WAR HERO
It was the time of Karil war when his unit was deployed in J & K along LOC. At that time Indian military detected a massive infiltration of the Pakistani military and paramilitary forces in the Kargil region. Indian Army took quick action and mobilized its forces to drive out infiltrators from Indian territory.
His first major operation involved securing Pt. 4875, also known as Pimple II, a strategic mountain peak on the western side of Tiger Hill which was occupied by Pakistani infiltrators. Capt. Nayyar’s Charlies company was given a task to secure the peak (Pt. 4875 ) without any aerial support.
At initial, his company commander got injured and evacuated. After that team split into two one is led by Capt. Vikram Batra and other by Capt. Nayyar.
AT point 4875 Pakistani have already made bunkers and when Nayyar’s company continued to recapture it they came under heavy firing. He destroyed 3 machine gun Bunkers and killed 9 Pakistani soldiers.
Under his leadership company able to assault 3of 4 bunkers. While clearing the last bunker an enemy rocket-propelled grenade directly hit Capt Nayyar.
Despite being injured, he continued to lead and held his breath until he destroyed the fourth bunker. No soldier of his company survived. After that Captain Batra charged to Pt. 4875 and defend it as Pakistani infiltrators began to counter-attack after 2 days of victory.
LEGACY
- For his heroism, he was widely covered with the media and running full-page description of his Kargil mission.
- Movies like LOC, Dhoop depicted the life and endeavours of the Indian Army at the time of Kargil war.
- A gas station allotted to his family by Government of India
For his extreme courage and leadership was an inspiration for his team. His exceptional courage, unyielding fighting spirit and supreme sacrificing lead him to be awarded second highest gallantry award ” Mahavir Chakra ”
