Name of Border Road Organization entered in Guinness Book of World Records

The name of the Border Road Organization of the Indian Army has been recorded in the Guinness World Records. The reason for this is to build the world’s highest motorable road in Ladakh at an altitude of 19,300 feet and to erect asphalt on it. The name of this route is Umling La Pass, which is the world’s highest and more challenging road made for vehicles after Khardung La Pass. Road building agency – BRO has acquired expertise in making roads in the most inaccessible places of North India.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari has also congratulated the Border Roads Organization on this feat of being named in the Guinness Book of World Records. Taking to Twitter, he said, “Heartiest congratulations to BRO India for being named in the Guinness Book of World Records for building the world’s highest motorable road and paving asphalt at 19,024 feet high Umling La Pass in Ladakh.”

The construction of 52 km long Umling La Pass, which is a tarmac road, was completed in August this year. This pass connects Chumar sector to Eastern Ladakh. This route can also be used to reach Chisumle and Dhemchuk from Leh, which is going to prove to be very beneficial for the local people. In winter, the temperature on this route goes up to -40 degrees and the amount of oxygen here decreases by 50 percent compared to sea level. This road has broken the record of 18,953 feet high Bolivia road which connects to the volcano named Utrunku.
