India slips two places to 117th on 17 Point Sustainable Development Rankings

India has lagged two places in the Sustainable Development Ranking. A new report said that India’s rank has slipped two places to 117 among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by 193 UN member states as part of the 2030 Agenda in 2015 from the previous year.

The status of India’s Environment Report 2021 has revealed that India’s rank was 115th last year which has now become 117th. This information has come to the fore in a new report. It is decided on the basis of various factors like environmental health, climate, air pollution, sanitation and drinking water, ecosystem services, biodiversity etc.

Why India’s ranking slipped

India’s ranking has fallen two places mainly due to key challenges such as ending hunger by achieving food security, achieving gender equality and building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable inclusive industrialization and fostering innovation. .

India’s overall SDG score

India is also ranked below four South Asian countries-Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The report states that India’s overall SDG score is 61.9 out of 100.
