NEW Delhi: On Tuesday, President Ram Nath Kovind gave his approval to Justice NV Ramana’s appointment as India’s next Chief Justice (CJI). On April 24, Justice Ramana will be sworn in as India’s 48th Chief Justice. On August 26, 2022, Justice Ramana will step down. Justice SA Bobde, the current Chief Justice of India, recommended Justice NV Ramana as his successor last month. Justice Ramana will have a considerably long tenure as CJI with over 16 months at the helm before he retires on August 26, 2022. In fact, it will be the longest tenure as Chief Justice of India for nearly a decade. Late Justice SH Kapadia was the last judge to have had a longer tenure lasting from May 2010 to September 2012.
