Union Cabinet on Wednesday granted the Deputy Chiefs and Command Chiefs of the Armed Forces financial powers to allow defense procurement of up to Rs 200 crore for capital procurement projects. Officials said that the Cabinet has approved granting these rights in the category of other capital procurement procedures.
Ministry of Defense reported that the Cabinet gave these powers to the Deputy Chief of the Army, Air Officer Maintenance and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defense Staff, as well as the Additional Director General of the Indian Coast Guard to the Deputy Chief of Defense Staff as well as the Additional Director General of the Indian Coast Guard. The ministry said, under these powers, capital goods like overhaul, refit, upgrade etc. will be included at service headquarters and command level. This will increase the utility of existing assets and will help in faster execution of projects.
