Drop Out From NDA : Can authorities of the National Defense Academy ( NDA) drop out a candidate from the academy? The NDA authorities hold the power to drop out a candidate from the academy. The NDA usually does not drop a cadet out of the academy under minor circumstances untill there are some valid and justified reasons for them to drop them.
As per the official figures, around 2.3% of the total around 6,000 cadets who passed out from NDA in 10 years till 2019, had to leave the academy due to academic, outdoor training, discipline standards or injuries/medical conditions. A majority of the cadets boarded out of the academy is due to medical reasons. The following are the major reasons for dropping out cadets from the NDA:
- Medical Issue – After getting recommended by the SSB, the cadets have to go for a number of medical tests to ensure their overall fitness for the defense services. In case, a cadet does not pass a certain medical test, his name will not be included in the merit list and as a result, he may have to drop out from NDA due to medical issues.
- Boarding Out due to Injury – If a cadet gets injured while training or completing an obstacle task in the academy, then he may have to drop out from the NDA. The authorities try their best to not drop the cadet out of the NDA if the injury can be recovered within a short period of time with complete assistance from the medical team. However, if the cadet gets badly injured and the injury is severe, then they will be dropped out from the academy as they will not be able to provide any service to the defense services with a prolonged and severe injury.
- Violation of Rules– The cadets joining the NDA need to follow a certain set of pre-decided rules and regulations which cannot be compromised with. If a cadet violates the rules of the NDA, then he will be punished depending on the rule that he violated. In some cases, if the violation of rules by a cadet causes some serious damage to the decorum of the defense academy or a fellow cadet training in the NDA, the cadet will be dropped out from the NDA in order to break the rules that were placed to maintain and ensure the discipline of a defense person’s life.
The NDA cadets are not been given a commission in the defence forces as a result of which they will not be given any pension after being dropped out from the academy. However, if the cadets become disabled due to an accident while training in the academy or completing a strenuous task, they will be provided a grant.
- In case of a death of a candidate during training or completing a task, their families are given an amount of Rs.15 lakhs.
- If a candidate becomes 100% disabled during training, he is given a grant of Rs. 7 lakhs.
- In case the candidate becomes 20% disabled, he is given Rs.2.5 lakhs.
- If the candidate becomes disabled between 20% to 100%, he will be granted an amount between Rs. 2.5 lakhs to Rs. 7 lakhs.
