Courses For NDA Cadets : The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the military training institute of the joint defense services of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets belonging to the three services i.e. the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force are given training together before they go ahead to provide their service to the respective service academy for further pre-commission training. The NDA is situated in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is considered to be the worlds first tri-service academy comprising of all the three services of the Armed Forces.

The NDA provides an offer of only a full-time, residential undergraduate program. Cadets are awarded a Baccalaureate degree (a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science) and a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree for Naval Cadets after 3 years of study

Naval cadets complete their fourth year of BTECH from Indian Naval Academy. The Cadets then have an option of choosing between two streams of study. The Science stream offers the cadets to study in physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science. The Liberal Arts or Humanities stream offers studies in history, economics, political science, geography and linguistics.

What is SSB Marking Scheme ?


Irrespective of the chosen stream, the academic studies are divided into three categories.

Compulsory Course: In this course, the cadets study English, physics, chemistry, computer science, Foreign Languages (Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian), history, economics, political science and geography. It is to be noted that the cadets are required to attend basic classes in the said subjects except foreign languages. Depending on their chosen stream, the cadets then have to take advanced classes.

The Foundation Course: This course is compulsory and includes Military Studies and General Studies.  The Military Studies comprise of subjects such as weapons systems and armaments, military geography, military history, etc. The subjects that are covered in General Studies are geopolitics, human rights, Laws of Armed Conflict and environmental sciences. 

The Optional Course: This course focuses on subjects that are specific to the chosen service of the cadet.

The cadets study the Compulsory Course and the Foundation Course in the first four semesters of the academy. After the completion of four semesters, they take the Optional Course during the fifth and sixth semesters. For the optional courses, they may have to transfer to other Service academies.
