Do Territorial Army Officers Get Pension ?
Originally raised by the British through the Indian Territorial Act of 1920, the Territorial Army was officially inaugurated after Independence on 9 October 1949 by the first Indian governor general, C. Rajagopalachari. The Territorial Army (TA) of India is an auxiliary military organisation of part-time volunteers that provides support service to the Indian Army. It is composed of officers, junior commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers and other personnel holding ranks same as Indian Army, who also have civilian occupations.
The Territorial Army consists of volunteers who receive limited military training so that their services can be utilized in the event of an emergency that includes defence of the country.
EMBODIMENT FOR TRAINING:-
- One month basic training in the first year of commission.
- Two months annual training camp every year including the first year.
- Three months Post Commissioning training within first two years at OTA, Chennai.
Territorial Army is an integral part of Indian Army and it is not a source of income rater it is a part-time service.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE :-
Territorial Army is part time concept with mandatory two months training in a year and does not provide full time career.Serving in Territorial Army do not guarantee pension and the same is subject to embodied service as per organisational requirement.Commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant.Pay and Allowances and privileges will be same as Regular Army Officers when embodied for training and military service.
Promotions upto Lt Col by time scale subject to fulfilling laid down criteria. Promotion to Colonel and Brigadier by selection.Officers commissioned in Infantry TA may be called out for military service for longer duration depending on the requirement.It gives part-time opportunity to serve the nation to all the men and women who are eager to the join Indian Army and is working elsewhere in public or private sector.In territorial army you will have to complete annual 2 months of training for that you will get payment as any other army officer.
If someone wants to extent the service he has to take Permission from the Unit.If you are permanently boarded in your unit and completed 20 years of service then you are eligible for pension also.Territorial Army Officers are Promoted till rank Of Brigadier Only.
