After 12th
Applicants can join the IAF after completing their 12th grade. All candidates who have cleared the class 12th exam are eligible to join the National Defence Academy (NDA) by passing the written exam and the SSB interview. Candidates join the IAF after completing their training. The UPSC administers the NDA exam twice a year.
After Graduation
Graduates can also join any branch of the IAF by passing the UPSC’s twice-yearly Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam. Candidates may also take the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) in order to be selected for the IAF. Following selection, candidates receive training at one of the IAF training institutes before being commissioned and assigned as Officers.
After Post-Graduation
Candidates can join IAF as officers via Meteorology Entry after completing their post-graduate studies. If candidates have a degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Electronics, it is simple to join the IAF. Entry into the Meteorological Branch is only possible after completing a post-graduate degree in any Science stream / Mathematics / Statistics / Geography / Computer Applications / Environmental Science / Applied Physics / Oceanography / Meteorology / Agricultural Meteorology / Ecology & Environment / Geo-physics / Environmental Biology with a minimum of 50% in all papers combined (Provided that Maths and Physics are the subjects at Graduation Level, with minimum 55 percent marks in both). NCC 51 SSB Interview Dates
NCC Entry
The National Cadet Corps (NCC), also known as the Fourth Line of Defense, allows young people to join the IAF. Candidates are eligible to join the IAF if they have completed NCC training and obtained a ‘C’ Certificate from the Air Wing NCC.
University Entry Scheme (UES) Entry
The University Entry Scheme (UES) is for candidates who are in their pre-final year of a BE/B.Tech degree. It must be guaranteed that there is no backlog in any paper from previous semesters at the time of the SSB interview. Aspirants must acquire a minimum of 60% in all papers in order to complete the degree.
