Indian Navy recruit candidates for Chef, Steward and Hygienist posts. These are the three junior most rank in Indian Navy. The is a non- technical entry, NMER (Non- Matric Entry Recruits) , now it has changed to MR i.e. the minimum eligibility is class 10th. This is a career option that ultimately falls under the Sailor category.
MR stands for Matric Recruit. These are the three posts that comes under it:
- Chef: A candidate will be required to prepare food as per menu and accounting of ration.
- Steward: He is responsible for serving food in the officer’s mess, housekeeping, accounting of funds, wine and stores, preparation of menu etc.
- Sanitary Hygienist: To maintain hygiene in wash-rooms and other areas is his responsibility.
In addition, the above all posts will also be trained in fire arms and will be allotted other duties so as to keep the efficient running of organisation.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Minimum Qualification: Candidate must have passed Matriculation Examination i.e. class 10th.
Age Limit: The Candidates age limit must have between 17 to 20 years on the day of enrolment.
Height: 157 cm
EXAM PROCESS

- Written Examination: The first phase to cross is the written examination. The exam will be of 30 minutes duration comprising two sections i.e. Section one of Mathematics. However second section is only of General Knowledge. Those who qualify the written exam will be qualified to go for PFT (Physical fitness test).
- PFT: To qualify the Physical Fitness Test in other words (PFT) the candidates has to pass 1.6 k.m run within 7 minutes, 20 squats (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates passing the PFT will have to appear for Medical Examination.
- Medical Examination: The Military doctors conducts this medical examination. The candidates who clear the Medical test will get a chance to appear in the final merit list.
- All India merit list : After the medical the comittee prepare a list i.e. An all India Merit list. Candidates featuring in this merit list will be selected for the post and will be notified via their recruitment centres.
- After the final selection, candidate will undergo through a basic training of 14 weeks at INS Chilka.
EXAM PATTERN DETAILS
- Computer- based bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type question paper .
- The question paper will be of total of 50 questions, each carrying 01 mark.
- The question paper will comprise of two sections ,Section A- Science & Mathematics ( 25 questions ) and Section-B General Knowledge (25 questions)
- The standard of the question paper will be that of class 10th.
- The Question paper will contain 2 part of paper Science & Mathematics and General Knowledge.
- The Examination Duration will be 30 minutes.
- A negative marking of one-fourth i.e. (0.25) marks is applicable.
