Ways To Join Indian Army As Officer Level

The youth of the nation is inclined to join Indian Army, but many of us are not aware of the opportunities that the Indian Army provides.

An officer in the Indian Army is a person that holds responsibilities and position of authority. An officer is also soldier but he is tasked with the responsibility to lead, inspire, support and protect other soldiers. My Unit, My family: For an army officer his unit is his family and his men the top most priority. He will spend most of his time with them to know them.

Below given are the entries through which the Indian Army finds potential officer:

  • NDA Entry: NDA is a written exam conducted by UPSC twice in a year and after clearing this you will be called for Services Selection Board (SSB). After getting recommended by SSB, medical examination will take place. After you get selected for NDA you will be getting bachelor degree for three years from JNU, after that 1 year training at Indian Military Academy, and then after get posted.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 16.5- 19.5 years
  • Gender: Only male candidates are eligible to apply.
  • Marital Status: only unmarried candidates are eligible to fill the application form.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be either,
  1. Citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Bhutan, or
  3. A subject of Nepal, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee
  • Educational Qualification: 10+2= Any stream.
  • CDS Examination Entry: CDS Examination is a gateway for both male and female candidates who desire to join Indian Armed Forces. Only unmarried graduates of age 19–24 are eligible to sit for the exam. Those Candidates qualified in the written exam. Then they are shortlisted for an interview by a Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview. After these tests, candidates undergo medical examination before finally admitted into the above-mentioned academies, and after successful completion of training, they are inducted into the armed forces.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: 19- 25 years.
  • Gender: Both Male and Female
  • Qualification: Graduation= Any Stream
  • NCC Special Entry: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% marks taking into account marks of all the years. Those studying in final year are also allowed to apply provided they have secured minimum 50% aggregate marks in the first two/three years of three/four years degree course respectively. Such students will need to secure overall aggregate of minimum 50% marks in degree course if selected in interview.
  • Territorial Army Entry: The Indian Territorial Army(TA) is a second line of defence after the Regular Indian Army; it is not a profession, occupation or a source of employment. It is only meant for those people who are already in mainstay civilian professions; in fact, gainful employment or self-employment in a civil profession is a prerequisite for joining the Territorial Army. Volunteers of the Territorial Army usually serve in uniform for a few days every year, so that they can bear arms for national defence in times of dire need or national emergencies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality:Candidates must be citizens of India.
  • Age Limits:The age of candidates should be between 18 and 42 years on the date of application.
  • Educational Qualifications:Must have completed graduation from a recognized university
  • Physical Standards:Candidates must be physically and medically fit in all respects.
  • Employment status:Gainfully employed.
  • Technical Entry Scheme (TES): TES is open for all such candidates who have qualified 12thstandard in Science stream. The selected candidates are admitted to engineering course by the Army and they are appointed directly on the Rank of Lieutenant after the successful completion of the course. However, it’s noteworthy that Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme is open for male candidates only. TES program commences twice a year in January and July. The duration of course is five years. Short listed candidates will be called for Services Selection Board (SSB) interview at Bhopal, Bangalore or Allahabad.
  • Short Service Commission (Technical) Entry: The Short Service Commission (Technical) Entry Scheme provides avenue for recruitment to eligible technical graduates/post graduates into Technical Arms. After SSB and Medical Board, the selected candidates are required to undergo approximately 140 49 weeks pre-commission training at OTA, Chennai. On completion of training, they are inducted as Short Service Commissioned Officers.
  • Judge Advocate General Entry: Judge Advocate General (JAG 25) 2020-21 is a special entry scheme for both male and female law graduates for Short Service Commission. In this JAG 25 special entry there is no written examination.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age Limit – 21yrs – 27yrs (Born not earlier than 2nd July, 1993 and not later than 1st July, 1999, both dates inclusive)
  • Nationality: Candidates must be either,
  1. Citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Bhutan, or
  3. A subject of Nepal, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee.
  • Educational Qualification: Minimum 55% aggregate marks in LLB Degree (three years professional after graduation or five years after 10+2 examination). The candidates should be eligible for registration with Bar Council of India/State. Candidates should be from a College / University recognized by Bar Council of India.

Army Cadet College (ACC) Entry: ACC entry is only for enlisted soldiers (non officers) who aspire to become officers. Civilians cannot apply for ACC. ACC entry is for soldiers serving in the army. ACC stands for Army Cadet College. This entry is for those soldiers who have the potential to become officers in the army. A soldier can apply for ACC entry after completing 2–3 years of service in the army. A written exam, also known as Army Cadet College Exam is held amongst the enlisted soldiers for selection. Final selection is done by SSB which is attended by the qualifiers of the written exam.
