WAYS TO JOIN INDIAN AIR FORCE : Joining the military, such as the Army, Navy, or Air Force, allows you to serve your country with pride and honour. Many people who desire to join the Indian Defence Forces aspire to be part of the Indian Air Force. The IAF can be joined in a variety of ways. Exams such as the NDA, AFCAT, CDS, University Entry Scheme (UES), and others are available to anyone interested in joining the Air Force.

• Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT)

The AFCAT exam is administered by the Indian Air Force. The AFCAT test is the most popular competitive exam for officers in the Indian Air Force. The AFCAT is held twice a year. The application form for AFCAT 2022 is now available on the IAF’s official website. A written test, an AFSB interview, and a medical test are all part of the AFCAT selection procedure. Candidates who pass all levels of the AFCAT 2022 recruiting will be commissioned in the Indian Air Force’s Flying Branch as well as the Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission in the Ground Duty Branches.

• Combined Defence Services (CDS)

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates who meet the CDS eligibility requirements 2022 can apply for the post on the UPSC website, upsc.gov.in. A written test and an SSB interview are part of the CDS 2022 selection procedure. Candidates who pass the CDS exam will be assigned to one of the three defence services, either the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.

• National Defence Academy (NDA)

The National Defence Academy (NDA) examination is administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Applicants who meet the NDA 2022 qualifying requirements can fill out the UPSC NDA 2022 application form online at upsc.gov.in. A written exam and an SSB interview are part of the NDA 2022 selection procedure. Applicants who pass all rounds of the NDA recruiting procedure will be assigned to the Indian Defence Services as officers.

• Indian Air Force Group X & Y

Candidates can also join the Indian Air Force through the Airmen Group X and Y admission after clearing their class 12th exams. This exam is held twice a year as well. Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements for Airmen Group X and Y can fill out the Airmen Group X and Y application. The maximum age to take this exam is 21 years old.

• Indian Air Force NCC Entry

It is a special entry provision provided to candidates for joining the IAF. Candidates with a NCC Grade C certificate and 60% marks in graduation are eligible for NCC entry. Candidates fulfilling the NCC entry eligibility criteria will be called for the SSB interview directly. 

• University Entry Scheme (UES)

Indian Air Force conducts University Entry Scheme (UES) recruitment process for the final year candidates to join the IAF as officers in the different cadres. It is one of the best opportunities for candidates to join the Indian Air Force while completing their academic degree. Applicants need to fulfil the UES eligibility criteria to be eligible for UES recruitment. Applicants must also note that they should not have any backlogs at the time of SSB interview. Applicants must have 60% marks to be eligible for UES entry on completion of their degree. The IAF UES selection process comprises a group discussion round. The shortlisted applicants from the UES GD round have to appear for SSB interviews followed by a medical test.
