The Indian Army has formed a new wing under the leadership of an officer of the rank of Major General to further enhance transparency in human rights matters. Major General Gautam Chauhan took over as Additional Director General (Human Rights) at the Army Headquarters on Thursday.
The launch of this wing is in line with the Army’s decision to ensure transparency in conducting anti-terror operations, the army said on Friday. In fact, security forces have been accused of human rights violations in some areas in the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir.
Significantly, last month, the Ministry of Defense approved the post of two deputy chiefs for military operations and strategic planning as part of the military reform process.
