On the day of Independence Day, Havildar Ved Prakash, a resident of Mauri village of Dadri, was martyred in an encounter with Maoists in Arunachal Pradesh. The martyr was cremated with military and state honors in his native village.
People gathered in the village to bid farewell to the brave braveheart. The sky reverberated with the slogans ‘Vedprakash is immortal’, ‘Till the sun will remain the moon, Vedprakash will be your name…’. During this, military and police contingents saluted the martyr by firing in the air with mourning tunes.
40-year-old Vedrapakash, a resident of village Mauri, had joined the Assam Rifle Regiment of the Army about 22 years ago. During his service period, his posting has been in Arunachal Pradesh only. According to family members, the flag was hoisted on Independence Day at the post where Ved Prakash was posted on Sunday morning. As soon as the soldiers saluted the national flag, the patrolling team went for patrol. Havildar Vedprakash was also a member of this patrolling team.

The Maoists who were already ambushed opened fire on the patrolling team and during this time a bullet hit Havildar Vedprakash in the neck and he was martyred. The team of soldiers reached the village Mauri with the dead body of the martyr. At the same time, as soon as the information of martyrdom was received, the administrative officers also reached Mauri. The martyr was cremated with state and military honors.
His sons Ashish (18) and Anuj (15) lit him by fire. During this, apart from the military officers, SDM Dr. Virendra Singh, JJP District President Naresh Dwarka and other officers were present. Shaheed Vedprakash’s father Karan Singh said that this is the first martyrdom from my family and my red raised my head with respect.
I educated my sons by doing daily wages and Vedprakash made my hard work worthwhile by joining the army 22 years ago. One cannot express the sorrow of his son’s departure, but his chest is wide with pride on paying off the debt of the soil of the son’s country.
