India’s captain Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to score 12,000 runs in One-Day International (ODI) on 02 December 2020. Virat Kohli reached this milestone after scoring 23 runs in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Australia at Manuka Oval.
The Indian captain has played 242 innings (251 matches) to score 12,000 ODIs, 58 less than the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had to play 300 ODI innings (309 matches) to reach this record.
Virat Kohli’s average in ODI format is close to 60, which he has dominated over the years. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is third on the list as he took 314 innings (323 matches) to score 12,000 runs in ODIs. He is followed by Kumar Sangakkara (336 innings, 359 matches), Sanath Jayasuriya (379 innings, 390 matches) and Mahela Jayawardene (399 innings, 426 matches).
Virat Kohli has also played 86 Tests and 82 T20 matches for India, in which he has scored 7,240 and 2,794 runs respectively. Recently, he became the ninth Indian cricketer to perform 250 ODIs. He has scored more than 21,000 international runs in formats so far. Overall, Kohli holds the record for making the most ODI matches for India after Sachin Tendulkar.

Virat Kohli holds the record for fastest 8000 runs (in 175 innings), 9000 runs (in 194 innings), 10,000 runs (in 205 innings) and 11000 runs (in 222 innings) and fastest in ODI cricket.
