India has reportedly invited British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the chief guest on Republic Day 2021. Last week, the Prime Minister of Britain was given this invitation during a phone call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi had a conversation with Boris Johnson on 27 November via a phone call to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and other issues.
During this phone call, the two leaders reiterated their shared commitment to work towards a long jump in India-UK partnership, post-Covid, post-Brexit era.
He also agreed that, there is tremendous potential to increase cooperation between the two countries in trade, investment and other areas such as defense, security, scientific research and mobility of students and professionals.
British High Commissioner John Thompson, who served in India, had earlier said in November that UK PM Boris Johnson would soon make an “in-person” trip to India.
Thompson had said that UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Rabb could soon visit India in the next few months and PM Boris Johnson is also very keen to visit India.
