93rd Academy Awards: Malayalam film Jallikattu has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars in the foreign-language film category. The film was unanimously selected from 27 entries in Hindi, Marathi and other languages.
Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, this Malayalam film Jallikattu revolves around an ox, who escapes from a slaughterhouse in a remote hilly village on the eve of his scheduled slaughter and a whole group of men are trying to stop the bull. Comes forward
The story of this film is S. A short story by Harish is based on the Maoist. It was screened at the 24th Busan International Film Festival. It also premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival of the year and received widespread acclaim there.
Jallikattu was selected by the Film Federation of India (FFI) on November 25, 2020 as India’s official entry into the International Feature Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards.
This official entry was to be selected from a total of 27 films including films in Hindi, Malayalam and Marathi languages.
Jury Board member Rahul Rawail of the Film Federation of India announced the name of this Malayalam film Jallikattu, as a jury nomination to represent India at the Oscars.
He said that this is a film that brings out the basic problems that exist in humans, and proves that we are worse than animals.
Other films in the award competition included The Sky Is Pink, Chhapak, Chalap, Gulabo Sitabho, Shakuntala Devi, Eb Alay Oo !, Bulbul and the internationally renowned feature, The Decipal.
