On 23 November 2020, the central government announced the introduction of an international version of the Umang App. This edition will be useful for Indian tourists going abroad, overseas Indians and Indian international students.
On the occasion of the third anniversary of this app, Information Technology and Communications Minister Ravi Shankar addressed a virtual program. Meanwhile, it was announced to introduce its international version.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Umang app has reached there, which is important to focus on making it an app that works on voice instructions and explore the possibilities of AI for this. He said that it should be kept in mind that it should be able to understand the language of those people who are not comfortable with the language of the digital world.
Now the international version of the Umang app will be available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Singapore and New Zealand.
With the help of this app, overseas Indians, Indian students and tourists will be able to use the services of the Government of India and the State Government at any time. On this occasion, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that services on the Umang App are available to citizens through 3.75 lakh Common Service Centers (CSCs) in the country.
Through Artificial Intelligence, it can be extended to such people who do not understand the language of digital world easily. He said that the Umang app should focus on the possibility of using AI technology to develop it as an app that works on voice instruction.
What is Umang App?
Prime Minister Modi launched the Umang App in the year 2017 to reach the major government services to the citizens through a single mobile app. The full form of Umang is ‘Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance’.
It is an all-in-one single, integrated, secure, multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile app of the Government of India that facilitates important services of various central and state government organizations.
