Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi passes away

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi died on 23 November 2020. Assam Health Minister Hemant Viswa Sarma gave this information. Corona-infected 84-year-old Congress leader was undergoing treatment at Guwahati Medical College. Many prominent leaders including PM Modi have mourned the death of Gogoi.

In view of the poor health of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Tarun Gogoi, all the programs of Dibrugarh were cancelled and returned to Guwahati. He himself gave information by tweeting. Tarun Gogoi recovered from Covid-19 in October, but complications following the disease surrounded him.

Tarun Gogoi was found infected with the coronavirus on 25 August and was admitted to GMCH the next day. After this he was discharged from the hospital on 25 October. The PM said that Gogoi also had years of political experience at the Center along with Assam. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. My condolences are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. om Shanti.

Gogoi was the Chief Minister of Assam from the year 2001 to 2016. Gogoi led the Congress to victory in three consecutive assembly elections. He also holds the record of being the Chief Minister of Assam for the longest time. Gogoi was born on 01 April 1936.

Gogoi was elected to the Lok Sabha 6 times. He was an MP from Jorhat thrice from the year 1971 to 1985. He was then MP of Kalibor during the years 1991-96 and 1998-2002. Currently, his son Gaurav Gogoi is MP from this seat.
