The glory of 21 years was so impressed with a fiery speech by Kargil war heroine Captain Yashika Tyagi that she decided to join the army. Despite having no army background, she took the examination held under Civil Engineering category of Short Service Commission Women Technical Officer and secured the first position. Now Mahima Singla, a student of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, will be recruited as a lieutenant in the army.
Mahima says that in the second year of civil engineering, she got a chance to hear Captain Yashika Tyagi, a war veteran who showed bravery during the Kargil War. She was the only one addressing the entire auditorium without a mic. Seeing and hearing about them, the stories of glory stood up. This was the moment when Mahima decided that she too had to go to the army and be courageous in every moment of life. She then began preparations to join the army.
Mahima prepared herself for the exam with the help of friends and family. At first, she thought about taking coaching, but due to Corona, things changed and she did self-study. After training she will get the rank of lieutenant. Mahima enrolled in civil engineering at Punjab Engineering College in 2016.
During his final year in November 2019, she filled the form for army recruitment. The SSB (Service Selection Board) exam was scheduled to take place in April, but the exam was held in September after being postponed due to Corona. Mahima, who hails from Amaravati Enclave, Panchkula, has secured 10 CGPA in class 10 and DC Montessori School (Manimajra) in class 12th with a score of 95%. Apart from studies, Mahima has won many awards at the district, state and national level in painting.
Mahima said that she needed fitness training to join the army. Here too the lockdown came in the way as the gym and training centre were closed due to Corona. After this, her father and brother brought home dumbbell and strength training equipment. Her weight was also around 62 kg. For the medical test, she raced and exercised at home and weighed up to 57 kg.
Her mother used to take care of her diet according to her health and weight. Mahima’s father NK Singla is serving as Chief Draftsman at HVPN, Sector-6, Panchkula. Mother Pratibha Singla is an architect in the tourism department of Haryana. and her elder brother Mohita Singla is in IT field.
Mahima told that in college, her friend Mahavir Prajapati’s father was in the Air Force, she used to give mock interview to Mahavir Prajapati. This helped her a lot in preparing for the exam. Her friends Chetna, Prabhanoor, Damini, Lalit, Saurabh, Aryan, Kinjal and Ayush also helped her prepare for the mock interview. Punjab Engineering College Director Dheeraj Sanghi congratulated Mahima for this achievement.
