Every graduate who is aspiring to be an officer in Indian Armed forces must have heard of CDS examination. CDS stands for Combined Defence Services examination. As the name specifies the examination is a combined examination of to get recruitment in all the three branches of Indian Armed Forces i.e. Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
CDS gives the opportunity to join the Tri-forces of Indian Armed Forces. Though the examination is almost similar for all the three forces. The training for them and the training institute for it differs.
Here in this article we are providing information on the Training of CDS in AFA i.e. Indian Air Force Academy.
Those who have the dream to fly fighter jets in Indian Air Force, CDS examination gives them ample opportunity to do so. Those students who have the desire to join Indian Air Force have to select AFA as first choice, as they have to be administered Computer Pilot Selection System (CPSS) and/or and AF Medicals at Central Establishment/Institute of Aviation Medicines. Choice applied for AFA as second/third etc. will be treated as invalid.

Training For Air Force Candidates in Air Force Academy
The training of Air Force candidates of CDS examination is exercised at Indian Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. Primarily, it is a Pre-Flying Training Course. Candidates recommended by the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) and found medically fit by appropriate medical establishment are detailed for training strictly on the basis of merit and availability of vacancies.
The merit list for Direct Entry Flying (Pilot) candidates is based on the combined marks secured by the candidates in the tests conducted by the UPSC and at the Air Force Selection Boards.
The training in the academy is approximately for 74 weeks. After successful completion of training, the candidates are granted permanent commission in the rank of Flying Officer and will be entitled to the pay and allowances of the rank.
The aspirants should know the fact that, the left-over candidates of IMA/Indian Naval Academy/Air Force Academy courses i.e. those who have been recommended by the UPSC for grant of Permanent Commission on the basis of the final results of the CDS Examination, but who could not be inducted on these courses for any reason whatsoever may be considered for grant of Short Services Commission (SSC).
The training for the candidates selected for the SSC is held in the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. The training in the OTA is of non-technical (NT) in nature and is available for both Men and Women.
