As you all may know that the results for NDA/NA 2 2019 examination for 144th NDA course and 106 NA course was declared on 12th December 2019. NDA examination was conducted twice a year to recruit commissioned officers for Indian Armed Forces i.e. Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
The examination for National Defence Academy is held in three phase:
- NDA written examination conducted by UPSC,
- Interview conducted by Service Selection Board i.e. SSB Interview
- And Medical Examination conducted by Military Hospitals.
Therefore the students who qualify the written examination will further go for SSB interview. The final merit list on the basis of which the selection of a candidate is done is made up of the aggregate marks obtained by a student in NDA written exam and SSB interview. That is why SSB interview play a very crucial role in a candidates journey of becoming a cadet in National Defence Academy. Both NDA written and SSB interview is of 900 mark each.
PROCEDURE OF SSB INTERVIEW
SSB interview is the longest running interview taken in any profession. It runs for 5 days continuously in which a candidate is completely tested. It analyse and checks a students on different parameters i.e. psychologically, physically and mentally etc. and choose the best among them keeping the one having the maximum OLQ’s i.e. Officer’s like qualities.
The five days process of SSB interview is as follows:
DAY 1 (Screening test) :
On Day 1, stage one of testing is administered. This includes a verbal and non-verbal intelligence (reasoning) test (About 50 questions each) also called as OIR Test and then a Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT). After the completion of these tests, unsuccessful candidates are dismissed or screened out. Other candidates are short-listed for the next 4 days of interview.
DAY 2 (Psychology Test) :
On Day 2, a Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) or picture story writing is administered. Also administered on the second day is a Word Association Test (WAT). Other tests administered on day two are the Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and Self Description Test (SDT).
Days 3 and 4, Group test by GTO (Group Testing Officer) :
On the third and fourth days, there are tasks including group discussion; group (military) planning exercises; progressive group tasks; small (half) group tasks; individual tasks (obstacles); group obstacle or “snake race”; command tasks; a lecturette and a final group task.
Days 2, 3 & 4, Interview by IO (Interviewing Officer) :
On day 2, 3 or 4 along with GTO, individual candidates are interviewed; the interview is conducted by the interviewing officer. It is based on the personal information questionnaires filled by the candidates on day 1.
Day 5, final assessment and results (CONFERENCE) :
On day five, all the officers come in Proper Uniform to attend the conference. Each candidate has a conversation with a panel of assessors. The assessors look for confidence and expression when speaking; a positive attitude in adversity and in life; and honesty. Following this, the final results are announced. Successful candidates remain for an intensive medical examination taking three to five days at a military hospital.
