Introduction To OTA
OTA i.e. Officer’s Training Academy is a training academy established in the year 2011 to give training to the cadets willing for Short Service Commission (SSC). The training period is around 49 weeks. The motto of the academy is ‘SHAURYA, GYAN, and SANKALP’.
After Kargil war, the Indian Army established three training centres i.e. OTA Gaya, OTA Chennai and IMA Dehradun to train the cadets, qualities of an Armed Force officer for their future course.
Closure Of OTA Gaya
Indian Army has decided to shut down the Officers Training Academy i.e. OTA situated in Gaya, as it has failed to attract the cadets. The other reason being the Academy hasn’t fulfilled the purpose of it and also the norms and motives for which Academy was established.
Indian Army has sent a letter to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the closure of the Officer Training Academy which was sanctioned.
Currently, the Academy was training 250 cadets which are supposed to be 750 every year. The cadets of OTA Gaya could take place in the IMA Dehradun (main cradle) or OTA Chennai. The vacant place of OTA Gaya would be occupied by The Sikh Light Infantry regimental centre from its existing location in Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The IMA trains for permanent commission officer while OTA Chennai indulged in providing training for short services commission (SSC) and Gaya OTA mainly gives training for Technical entry scheme (TES) for PC officers and Special commissioned officers ( SCO) scheme for other ranks.
On the contrary, Nitish Kumar (BJP MP) from Aurangabad in Bihar, opposes the proposal by saying that it will affect the local economy. He wrote a letter to Defence Minister showing his anger.
However, till now, 91 cadets were commissioned from OTA GAYA
