Complete Analysis of CDS 2 2019

Every year UPSC conducts CDS paper twice a year for the recruitment of Officers in the Indian Armed Forces. As the name suggests it is a Combined Defence Examination for joining Indian Army, Indian Navy & Indian Airforce as an Officer by the courses carried out by Indian Military Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Officers training Academy.

Now the students can sit and relax as they have done their part and CDS 2 2019 written examination is over. The exam was held on 8th September 2019 to fill in the total vacancy of 417 candidates. Like always CDS 2 2019 was conducted in 3 meetings i.e., the first paper was of English from 9 am to 11 am , second paper is of General Knowledge from 12 pm to 2 pm and the third paper is of Elementary Mathematics held from 3pm to 5pm.

 As the CDS 2 2019 examination is over, the students must be curious to know about their paper. Here we are sharing the detailed analysis of the CDS 2 2019. This analysis will contain the comparison of CDS 2 2019 paper with the previous year’s paper as well as the number of questions asked and their level of difficulty.

Note: Candidates applied for IMA, AFA and INA have to attend all the 3 papers above, while OTA Candidates have to attend only General Knowledge & English paper.

ENGLISH:

The English paper of CDS 2 2019 containing a total of 100 marks consists of             120 questions. Divided as follows:

Now detailing about the questions as well as the question paper, beyond the expectations and speculations English section was comparatively easy as compared to previous years CDS papers. The major change that happened in CDS 2 2019 English paper is that this time there were absence of fill in the blanks type questions. The reason of CDS 2 2019 paper being easy is that it even asked for the first time in the history of UPSC questions were asked to identify the parts of speech , not only this for the first time identifying the correct word or Misspelt words  were also asked and that too of a very basic level.

Overall we can say that the paper was easy and of basic level. As we analyse this paper pattern is quite similar to the TET paper. Since the paper was easy we can easily assume that the cut-off may go high. It may vary from 70 – 85 which makes the English paper even more important.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:

The G.K paper is of 2 hours, comprising of 120 questions of 100 marks. CDS papers also contain negative marking, for each wrong question a negative marking of one-third marks is applicable.

A total of 22 questions were asked from Geography in General Knowledge Paper. Most of the questions were in between Moderate to difficult level. In comparison with other G.K subjects geography has grabbed the maximum number of questions. As compared to CDS I 2019 the level of Questions in CDS II 2019 were easy & the number of question were high.

As per the analysis this time Biology has played a major role in General Science section of G.K paper. A total of 14 questions were asked from Biology in General Knowledge Paper. On the basis of difficulty level it was an easy – moderate paper

Current Affairs always play a key role in General Knowledge Paper of CDS Examination. This section contained 16 questions. Based on the subject analysis the level of difficulty was easy – moderate this time.

History contained a total of 15 questions in General Knowledge Paper. Based on the subject analysis done above we can say that Modern history played the most important part in overall history section. Talking about the difficulty level History questions were on easy moderate level.

Physics paper wasn’t a surprise for candidates. It was as expected. CDS II 2019 General knowledge contained a total of 13 questions on physics. There was no such topic that contained the maximum questions. It was a totally balanced question paper containing each and every topic of the subject in equal number.

Polity contained a total of 19 questions in General Knowledge Paper. Based on the subject analysis the level of difficulty was easy this time. Giving other G.K subjects a tough competition polity also contained a vast number of questions, maximum questions were asked from the articles or we can say The Constitution.

Economics covered a total of 11 questions. Most of the Initial questions in the paper were of economics only. This time Economics had played an important part in G.K section of the question paper. The level of questions was easy-moderate .Unlike CDS I 2019 this time students does got some easy questions too.

Talking about Chemistry, it contained a total of 13 questions. Some of the questions were of confusion as it belonged to Physics & Chemistry both. Comparing it with CDS I 2019 students got an easy-moderate level question paper this time.

MATHEMATICS:

Mathematics is for those students who wants to join INA, IMA and AFA as their future institutions. This section also comprises of a total of 100 questions and each question carries 1 mark.

Based on the analysis we can say that CDS II 2019 maths section was moderate- difficult. Out of 100 candidates can mark around 60 to 69 good attempts. Most of the questions were of expected difficulty but the paper was balanced.

Talking about the topics, Number system and Equations was a tough nut to crack. Some of the questions from trigonometry section were also of advanced order. Mensuration played a big role this year but the level of questions was low. Overall the paper was more or less expected.
