Group Discussion or GD is the activity which is done to find out the candidates’ capability to represent, to understand others point of view, how one expresses their ideas, team spirit, leadership qualities, etc.
Group Discussion is the first task to be commenced. So you have a really great opportunity to make your impression and catch the eye of the assessors. Through Group Discussion they will evaluate how much you know about team spirit and leadership, how cool mind you are. Many people start shouting while having the discussion they turn the theme discussion into debate. Remember it is not a debate (although you don’t do that in debate as well) it is a discussion.
One must know how to perform excellent in Group Discussion. Here are some tips which will help you to reach this.
1- The first tip is to have a positive approach as it will let brain to give more ideas, creativity hence one can put up the ideas more conveniently. Positive approach not only let you be more productive it also adds up to your personality enhancing your performance.
2- Learn the art of participation. Don’t expect other candidates to ask you your opinion or wait for others to start. Initiate yourself in a confident way, participate in discussion. Remember this is not a fighting field where you impose your ideas on others. Be firm and polite while discussion.
3- Think well before starting any discussion it should not look like you spoke only for few seconds and then totally blank. Speak up only if you are well prepared on that topic. Select the topic on which you can express well. Take your time you will be given 15 minutes to think and then select the topic on which you can perform well.
4- Don’t be rigid in participation. Never criticize others they are too well learned maybe more than you or equal or less. It is not the positive approach to criticize and hence will reflect in your attitude. Always respect others opinion and respect their opinion it might be better than yours.
4- Be attentive always. When you think of topic then be alert, attentive. Don’t yawn or act lazy. It will not let come out the creativity of you. The content you speak up should be sensible with examples. Be confident and take care of words, it will have an impact of your personality.
5- Take care of your dressing sense. It will count to your personality, how you are dressed will be noticed very well. Be moderate and professional in attire.
6- Read lots and lots of book and spend time in knowing and learning about various topic and surroundings. It will help you in thinking of points and covering up the topic.
And last but not the least remember that group discussion is meant to find the team spirit and leadership qualities. Be calm, confident and neutral to have a positive impact in the discussion.
