To make your Dream come true become a part of Trishul Defence Academy.
GTO or Group Testing Officer is one of the three tests conducted in SSB interview on third and fourth day of the five day test process, in order to check the capability of the candidates as an individual or team member. GTO has in total nine tasks-
1-Group Discussion (GD)
2-Group Planning Exercise (GPE)
3-Progressive Group Task (PGT)
4-Group Obstacle Race (GOR)
5-Half Group Task (HGT)
6-Lecturette
7-Individual Obstacles (IO)
8-Command Task (CT)
9-Final Command Task (CT)
GTO is not only about you as an individual, but mostly as a team member, i.e. your performance is observed by assessors on a whole. The most important tip is “Be yourself” although it might sound unbefitting this main ingredient will lead you to success. Everyone is best in some or the other task, everyone cannot do everything excellent, yes one should put all effort but to accept this reality will make your way to be a good team member and that is for what GTO is conducted.
It can be categorized in three series conducted on 3rd and 4rth day, after two days the profile of candidate is made based on the performance.
First Category– Tasks like GDP, Lecturette, GPE are taken into consideration where the speaking skills, communication power and how you put present your ideas, how you react to others are all observed and as said “first impression is the last impression” it doesn’t mean if you couldn’t do good at beginning so you lost all chance, but if you are able to make good impression at beginning then you will be in mind of people. GDP is the first task and if you do well in it, the assessors will themselves look for your performance in later tasks. GDP is about group discussion, so think before you speak, opinion or idea you are giving should make sense, do not criticize others ideas even if you don’t agree just be simple, humble and appreciate them for their effort. Practice for this attitude from before, you cannot grasp it in just one go. Know about surroundings, always read books, increase in knowledge, this habit will not let you go blank in these tasks.
Second Category– Here tasks focusing on individual performance, in order to observe the stamina, physical strength, phobia (if any), body balance, etc are taken into consideration. Tasks like GOR, IO, etc are held.
Third Category– Tasks including HGT, PGT, CT and FGT are conducted to see your performance as a group member. In this you are analyzed how you are cooperating with other members, work division, how you come up to solution with help of team mates not alone.
EXTRA TIPS-
- Be yourself and know your strength and weakness.
- Train yourself for physical stamina from minimum 6 months before; it takes time to get that body.
- Train yourself to be calmer even in disastrous situation; this will help you overcome nervousness during tasks.
- Always maintain positive attitude towards task and situation.
- Learn about correct leadership and how to be best team member because it is your performance in your team, team objective should be your objective, and how you contribute to your team success, which is what GTO is for.
- Focus on quality not quantity.
