More than 450 senior players taking training under the ‘Mission Olympic Wing’ of the Indian Army

More than 450 senior players are currently training under the ‘Mission Olympic Wing’ of the Indian Army. Senior officials gave this information on Tuesday. After joining the army in May 2016, javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was selected to train under Mission Olympic Wing.

He won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Mission Olympic Wing is an initiative of the Indian Army, in which apart from identifying talented sportspersons of 11 sports, they are trained for national and international competitions.

According to Army officials, there are five classes of Mission Olympic Wing which include Rowing (Sailing), Marksmanship (Shooting), Horse Riding, Sailing (Sail Sailing) and Army Sports Institute (ASI). Officials said more than 200 players from seven sports are taking training at the ASI which includes archery, athletics, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, fencing and diving.


What Should Be Thought Process Of First Time Defence Aspirants ?


Around 100 shooters are taking training under marksmanship category. About 90, 50 and 10 senior players are taking training under rowing, sailing and horse riding respectively. Officials said that the Indian contingent that took part in the Tokyo Olympics included 16 army soldiers.

Subedar Neeraj Chopra, 23, on Saturday ended India’s 100-year wait for a medal in the Olympic track and field event with a distance of 87.58m in the javelin throw. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the armed forces on Saturday lauded Chopra, saying he has made the country proud by performing like a “true soldier”.
