United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) recently provided its confirmation of the year 2020 as the ‘worst year on record’, owing to international travel restrictions implemented to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19 to global tourism suffered tremendously.
Comprehensive travel restrictions and an unprecedented drop in demand led to a 74 per cent drop in international arrivals worldwide and 01 billion fewer international arrivals than in the year 2019.
According to the latest report by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, the decline in international travel has led to an estimated loss of US $ 1.3 trillion in export revenue, more than 11 times the loss recorded during the 2009 global economic crisis. .
A UNWTO report states that, the Covid-19 crisis has endangered approximately 100–120 million direct tourism jobs, many of them available in small and medium-sized enterprises.
This report further states that, due to the increasing nature of the coronavirus epidemic, many countries are now re-enforcing strict travel restrictions.
These restrictions include in some cases quarantine/quarantine rules, compulsory testing and complete closure of limits.
