Government of India launches Shram Shakti portal to collect data of tribal migrant workers

Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched ‘Shram Shakti’ portal on 22 January 2021 to collect data related to tribal migrant workers and such workers will also be linked to the existing welfare schemes.

The Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, while launching the digital portal ‘Shram Shakti’ said that the lack of real-time data about migrant workers is the biggest challenge facing the central and state governments.

The unavailability of data about migrant workers was also preventing governments from formulating effective policy decisions and strategies for the welfare of migrant workers.

The ‘Shram Shakti’ digital portal will be able to successfully bridge the data gap and also empower the migrant workers, who generally move between the country and the country in search of income generation and employment.

Data collected through the ‘Shram Shakti’ portal will include livelihood options demographic profile, migration patterns and skill mapping.

According to the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, migrants across the country have faced difficulties following the declaration of lockout / lockdown due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. He further said that the migration of tribals is motivated by the crisis and with this, the unsafe and difficult conditions affect the migrants more.
