Every year defence aspirants give officer level defence entrance exams like NDA, CDS, AFCAT to join in Indian Armed Forces and serve the nation with a selfless spirit. But they need to pass the SSB Interview round and secure their position to named in the final merit list. The Screening Test in SSB is one of the important part of SSB interview.
SSB (Services Selection Board) is a five-day-long procedure that includes two stages of testing commonly known as Stage-I & Stage- II. Stage (I) will consist of Officer Intelligence Rating Test (OIRT) and Picture Perception & Description Test (PPDT) and then comes the stage (II), which will consist of Group Testing Obstacles (G.T.O), Psychology Tests, Personal Interview and the Conference.
The Screening Test in SSB is the Stage-I testing method conducted by the SSB to reject the unsuccessful candidates for appearing in the next stages of testing. The Screening Test round is held on Day 1 and around 50-60 percent of the total candidates are sent back home as they fail to qualify in this round.
The Screening Test in SSB process consists of the following: –
- Intelligence Rating Test (OIRT)
- Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT)
- Group Discussion (PPDT)
Officer’s Intelligence Rating Test (OIRT)
OIRT involves Non-verbal and Verbal Reasoning covering topics like :-
Number series, Cubes, Patterns, Direction sense test, Intelligence tests, Coding decoding, Odd one out, Blood Relations etc. The test includes two different papers.
- 1st paper verbal 50 questions (time limit varies)
- 2nd paper Non-Verbal 50 questions (time limit varies)
Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT)
PPDT (Picture Perception and Description Test) involves writing a story on one given picture (As in TAT), narrating the same individually and finally a Group Discussion wherein the candidates (Between 15 to 20) after hearing each other story are required to discuss and formulate one common story.
The time for discussion is about 15-20 minutes. Writing, narration and discussion have to be done in English. As one can see from the test, candidate communication skills will come into play and those not able to speak will automatically have minimal chances of passing. The candidates are advised to practice speaking in English to improve their chances of passing. Only about 30% of candidates get screened in it.
Group Discussion
The Group Discussion part of the PPDT is almost indistinguishable from that of the one in the GTO test. You would have seen that at whatever point somebody has a discussion about any subject, conflicts and clashes will undoubtedly occur. That is also the concept of GD (Group Discussion) in PPDT.
Conflict can prompt disappointment and passionate problem. However, it can likewise additionally prompt objection. Dealing with this requires a bunch of abilities. How you respond to an inconsistency in the serious case is the thing that intrigues the assessors.
The test framework needs to perceive how you respond to a logical inconsistency. It is right to say that you are can remain sincerely stable even with it? It is right to say that you are fit for keeping a level of persistence tuning in?
Contrasts in opinions are normal and bound to occur. The candidate should be fit for remaining sincerely stable despite the logical inconsistency, to determine the emotional aggravation and outburst.
