Army Cadet College (ACC)

In this Blog we will discuss about Army Cadet College also known as ACC. The Army Cadet College wing is called Siachen Battalion in Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. In ACC wing the jawans of Army, Air Force and Navy were trained to become Comissioned Officers.

History of Army Cadet College

If we discuss about the history of ACC, then the history will go to 80 years back when where many alumni were trained under its banner. It was established in 1929 at Kitchner College at Chhatarpu, MP and was renamed as ACC in 1960.

In 1964 it was decided to shift it to Ghorpuri, near Pune which was the campus of Officers Training Institute (OTI) which was merged with OTA Chennai. At the last, ACC was re-shifted in IMA, at Dehradun  as 66th in July 1977.

For admission, the candidates have to appear in the written test which is conducted by Military Training Directorate and then successfully clearing SSB interview and medicals also. The first course at IMA comprising 40 Gentleman Cadets (GCs) included 15 from the Kitchener College that became the ACC. Although, being officer they could not able to reach the top ranks means that most officers would retire before ever reaching the higher ranks, due to the correlation of age & promotion.

Eligibility:

On completion of Army Cadet College training, candidates are commissioned as Indian Army officers.

Any candidates who are under Other ranks and age ranging from 20 to 27 years, and to get commissioned as officer a candidate has been completed at least 2 years of service along with intermediate (10+2).

Any jawan from tri services can apply only with the permission of his commanding officer. And the successful soldiers were trained for 4 years in ACC Wing which means Siachen Battalion IMA, Dehradun. The training is same as the NDA cadets were trained on 3+1 years of pattern, comprising 3 years degree course on science and humanities and last 1 year the candidates were trained in IMA as equal to the direct entry cadets for pre commissioning training.
