The United States and France have recognized Russia’s contribution to the cease-fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, but they want full legitimacy in the parameters of the agreement.
A senior US State Department official told reporters on Monday, “We are … recognizing the work done by Russia for a week-long cease-fire but there is still a lot of question, Russia regarding the parameters of the agreement There is a need for transparency and that includes the role of Turkey. ”
The ceasefire agreement was signed by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nicholas Pashinyan last week after several weeks of fighting in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh by mediation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The official said that the US and France are committed to their roles in resolving the OSC Minsk Group’s conflict with Russia.
