Police Bus Attacked : A police bus was attacked by terrorists in a highly fortified area of Srinagar on Monday. Two policemen were martyred and 14 others were injured in the incident, some of whom are in critical condition. Police said that the attack was carried out by a branch of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
That this is the first major attack on security forces in the Valley since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019 and the Lethpora (Pulwama) car bomb blast (40 jawans were killed in the incident).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought information about the attack. In a post on Twitter, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “He has also expressed condolences to the families of the security personnel who were martyred in the attack.”
At the same time, the police informed that the terrorists fired indiscriminately on the police bus of the 9th Battalion of the Armed Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police in Jewan on the outskirts of Srinagar city. 16 police personnel were injured in this. He was immediately rushed to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Badamibagh where two policemen died. Police sources said that one of the dead was an assistant sub-inspector and the other a constable. Sources said that three terrorists carried out the attack. They came on scooty and fled after firing indiscriminately at the police bus.

In a statement, the police said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that three terrorists fired indiscriminately at a police vehicle carrying police personnel near Zewan… Was coming back to the premises. Though retaliatory firing was done, but taking advantage of darkness, the terrorists managed to escape from the spot. Police said that one terrorist was injured in retaliatory firing. Police said that, “Reliable sources have revealed that the attack was carried out by the Kashmir Tigers, the wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed.”
Jewan houses the Armed Wing Complex of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, which houses several armed police battalions. It also houses the Sector Headquarters of CRPF and the Station Headquarters of ITBP. It is worth noting that this year terrorists are continuously attacking the policemen. According to official figures, 19 policemen have been killed so far, including two policemen who were martyred in the terrorist attacks on Monday in the Valley. Two days ago, terrorists killed two policemen in Bandipur. Police said that they have identified the terrorists.
