The Indian Army on Thursday released the results of the first Army Board created to give permanent commission to women officers. According to these results, about 49 percent women officers of the army will remain in service. Official sources said that the board was considering giving permanent commission to a total of 615 women officers. According to the report of the news agency ANI, about 320 women officers will retire after 20 years of service, who will also get pension.
Recently, the Ministry of Defense had given official approval to give permanent commission of women in Indian Army. After this, on August 5, a report by a news agency ANI came out which said that women officers in the Indian Army who are going to join through Special Entry Scheme or Short Service Scheme are being considered. The Indian Army had said in its directive that the applicant officer should submit his application form, option certificate and other necessary documents to the army headquarters by 31 August 2020 under any circumstances.
It is worth mentioning that in the past, the Supreme Court had granted one month extension to the Central Government to give permanent commission to SSC women officers working in the Indian Army. Not only this, the Supreme Court also directed to give permanent commission to women in the Navy. Later, the apex court granted relief to the Center and extended the extension of the order by three months. The Supreme Court, in its order, said that women and male officers should be treated equally.
The order issued by the Ministry of Defense stated that women military officers of the Short Service Commission will get permanent commission in all ten units of the army. Now since the results of the Army Board have also been declared. The deployment of women will now be a reality in the top positions of the army. According to the Ministry of Defense, women officers will get permanent commission in Army Air Defense, Signal, Engineer, Military Aviation, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Army Service Corpus, Ordnance Corpus and Intelligence Corpus.
