In the coming days, the operation of the base workshop of the army can be entrusted to private companies. The process for this has been started. It can start with the workshop in Delhi. However, even then, the workshops will remain under the control of the government, but they will be run by private companies and they will also be able to take outside work if needed. It is believed that this step is being taken with the aim of reducing the cost and increasing the efficiency of the base workshop.
The Army has eight base workshops in the country, which are located at Delhi, Meerut, Agra, Bangalore, Jabalpur, Kankinara (West Bengal), Prayagraj, Kirkee (Pune). In these, the work of servicing and repairing all types of military vehicles, equipment (including tanks) related to the army is done.
The parts manufacturing is done only in the Bangalore base workshop. But now the DPR is being prepared to hand over these sensitive workshops to the private sector, under which the private sector will operate them under the ownership of the army.

On behalf of the Army, it has been said before the Parliamentary Committee attached to the Ministry of Defense that talks with the industry are in progress for this. DPRs have been prepared. The plan is to carry them forward with the help of the private sector. There is also a lot of land with these base workshops, what else can be used for it, it is also being discussed. Efforts are being made that it should also be used for repair and construction work.
It was also told on behalf of the army that if the workshop is left with capacity after the operation of the private sector, then it will also be able to take work outside the army. For example, if trucks are repaired in a workshop, they will be able to repair trucks outside as well.
Let us tell you that the condition and capabilities of these base workshops of the army have also been questioned by the CAG in the past. In these, attention was drawn to the acute shortage of equipment and resources.
