About Admiral R Hari Kumar
Born on 12 April 1962, Admiral Kumar joined service in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 1 January 1983. During his long and distinguished service of nearly 39 years, Admiral Kumar has served in various command, staff and instructional appointments.
The deployments in Admiral Kumar’s Maritime Command include the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nishank, the missile-equipped warship INS Kora and the guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvir.
He has also commanded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat. Admiral Kumar has also served as the Fleet Operations Officer (FOC) of the Western Fleet. Prior to assuming the charge of FOC in the Western Naval Command, he was also the Chief of Integrated Staff Committee and Integrated Defense Staff at Headquarters.
Admiral Kumar has completed several courses from Naval War College, US, Army War College, Mhow and Royal College of Defense Studies, UK. He has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
