The strength of the Indian Navy has increased further after including ‘Varunastra’ tornedo . On Wednesday, the first heavyweight anti submarine torpedo ‘Varunastra’ made in the country was included in the Navy. Varunastra is able to attack the enemy’s warships and submarine with speed of 40 nautical miles / hour in water.
Bharat Dynamic Limited (BDL) developed the missile in Naval Science and Technological Limited(NSTL) of DRDO. According to BDL, “After Make in India lightweight fighter plane Tejas , the country succeed in developing indigeneous weapons.
Recently it was tested in Bay of Bengal which is proved tob e successful. After successful trial it ws decided to include in Navy.
The main features of this tornedo is its speed in water. It caan travel at the speed of 40 nautical miles/ hour carrying 250 gram of explosive to attack on enemy’s warships and submarine. 95% of this torpedo is indigeneous.
By including in Navy India became one of the 8 countries which have the efficiency to make this type of missile.
Defence Minister Manohar Parikhar entrusted it to Navy on Wednesday.
