Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the high-level debate on maritime security at the United Nations Security Council on 9 August 2021. At the same time, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will chair meetings related to peacekeeping and counter-terrorism on August 18 and 19.
With this, Prime Minister Modi will become the first Prime Minister of the country to chair the United Nations Security Council. The Prime Minister will virtually preside over this program. Significantly, on 01 August 2021, India became the President of the Security Council for a month. During the presidency of the United Nations Security Council, India’s attention is focused on three important issues. These issues are maritime security, peacekeeping and counter-terrorism. TS Tirumurti announced this on 02 August 2021. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the External Affairs Minister will preside over the programs related to it.
India’s first working day as the President of the United Nations Security Council was 2 August. TS Tirumurti will hold a mixed press conference at the UN Headquarters on the Council’s programs for the month, ie some people will be present there while others can connect via video conference.
