Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, which has been inaugurated as “India’s biggest scheme to augment the health infrastructure infrastructure”. The objective of this Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission is to ensure a robust public health infrastructure in urban and rural areas, capable of responding to public health emergencies or disease outbreaks.

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the mission aims to “fill critical gaps in the public health infrastructure, especially in critical care facilities and primary care in urban and rural areas.”
