Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told on 11 August 2021 that Indore, India’s cleanest city, has been declared as the country’s first ‘Water Plus’ city under the Swachh Survekshan 2021. He tweeted that Indore has been an example to the entire nation for its dedication and strong will towards cleanliness.
On getting this achievement, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Urban Development and Housing Minister Bhupendra Singh have congratulated the officers and employees of Indore Municipal Corporation as well as the citizens of the city. Indore’s in-charge minister Dr. Narottam Mishra also congratulated the residents of the city on this occasion.
In the selection process of ‘Water Plus’, 84 cities of the country had applied. Out of this, only 33 cities were found suitable for ground verification. The hard work of the residents of Indore has once again created history in ground verification. Under the Swachhta Bharat Mission Urban, the cities of the country are tested on the basis of various cleanliness standards. It has categories of ODF Plus, ODF Double Plus and Water Plus.

The Water Plus certificate is awarded to those cities which have fulfilled all the standards of ODF Double Plus. Also, the residual sewage from residential and commercial establishments is released into the environment only after treatment. Reuse of treated waste-water is also ensured. Only those cities which meet these standards are declared as water plus.
The Water Plus survey in Indore was conducted between July 9 and 14. The central team had visited the city for 5 consecutive days and investigated on all the parameters. The team conducted a survey in Indore city on 11 parameters along with community toilets, public toilets.
The central team had surveyed about 200 locations in Indore city keeping in mind 11 parameters. Where the city of Indore has got this achievement only after meeting on every scale. The special thing is that after this achievement, Indore city’s claim of becoming number-1 in cleanliness ranking for the fifth time in a row has also become stronger.
