Indian Railways has launched ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative which takes care of the safety of women passengers traveling by trains in all areas. This initiative was started in September 2020 as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway. After the positive response received from women passengers, it was extended to all regions and Konkan Railway from 17 October 2020.
This ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative has been launched by Railway Protection Force (RPF) “Meri Saheli” initiative for the safety of women passengers during train journey. During the train journey, RPF staff advises women passengers about the use of helpline number 182 and security controls in case of emergency.
Objective
The Ministry of Railways has decided to launch the ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative aimed at protecting and protecting women passengers who will travel by train from the starting station to the destination station for their entire journey.
This initiative will create a sense of security among women passengers travelling by short or long routes of the train. This initiative has been initiated to effectively respond to any security related issues faced by women travelling by trains.
