India has made a big achievement recently. India has been re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). India’s tenure in the UNHRC will be from 2022 to 2024. After being elected as a member, India said that it will continue to work for the promotion and protection of human rights through respect, dialogue and cooperation.
The member states of the UNHRC are elected by secret ballot at the United Nations. The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations has given information about being elected a member of the UNHRC by tweeting. He wrote that India was re-elected to the UNHRC for the sixth time with an overwhelming majority.
The United Nations General Assembly selected Argentina, Benin, Cameroon, Eritrea, Finland, Zambia, Honduras, India, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Montenegro, Paraguay, Qatar, Somalia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States by secret ballot.

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) consists of 47 member states. They are elected through the United Nations General Assembly. The seat distribution of the member countries of this council has been done on a geographical basis. In this, 13 members are elected from Africa and Asia Pacific region. Apart from this, 8 members are elected from South America and Caribbean countries, 7 from Western Europe and 6 from Eastern Europe.
