How Curfew is differ from Lock down ?

The situation of horrible pandemic spreading has worsened .The cases of infection have been increasing rapidly. The world has confirmed 4,00,000 cases of Corona virus or called COVID 19 and registered a death toll of 15,000 as on March 24, 6 pm. In India alone, 530 cases of COVID-19 have been reported and 10 people have died in less than two months of the first case being reported from Kerala on January 30.By the evening of 24 March our PM Shri Narendra Modi announced 21 days complete lockdown all over India.

Before announcing complete lockdown PM Narendra Modi, in his efforts to step up preventive measures, he announced a ‘Janata Curfew’ asking all people to stay indoors from morning 7 to  night 9 on March 22. Inter-state buses, passenger trains and Metro trains have been halted and state borders have been sealed.

There are some differences between these two. People are confused between lockdown and curfew

WHAT IS THIS LOCK DOWN AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM THE CURFEW?
CURFEW

Curfew means ordering people to stay at home for a specific time frame. The administration imposes curfew in emergency situations. Through this, people are instructed not to leave the streets. This is done under an administrative order. During curfew  places like schools, colleges, markets are closed during curfew. Violation of curfew can lead to fine or arrest.

LOCKDOWN

Lockdown is an emergency protocol. This means that in order to isolate, when the authority wants to limit people to one place, it is called lockdown. At such a time, people are instructed to stay in an area or building and are told not to leave from there. The basic objective of this system is to increase the social distancing to check the outbreak of any pandemic.

Citizens violating the lockdown order may need to give a compelling explanation for the same. Hospitals, telecom, medical, provision stores are exempt as are entities in manufacturing and distributing essential commodities and skeletal transport services.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOCKDOWN AND CURFEW

Although the impacts and objectives of these two systems seem similar but still, there are some differences between the Lockdown and Curfew. Let consider the differences

KEY DIFFERENCE

The key difference between the two is the relaxation given by the administration.

If there is a riot or violence in an area and the administration imposes curfew to control the situation, the services required such as markets and banks are also closed for that time. All these services are also provided to the people when the curfew is relaxed.

Required services are not stopped in lockdown. As lockdown has been kept in many states in the country at this time, but banks, dairy and shops are open for essential goods everywhere.
