Henley Passport Index 2022 Highlights

Henley Passport Index 2022 released recently. The latest edition shows record-breaking levels of travel freedom for the top-ranked countries, Japan and Singapore. The report also shows that the global mobility gap was the largest recorded since the index was created 17 years ago.

Passport holders from two Asian countries, Japan and Singapore, can now enter 192 destinations around the world visa-free. This is 166 more than Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is listed at the bottom of this index. According to this index, in the first quarter of 2022, India has improved its passport strength. India climbed seven places to 83rd position.

It was ranked 90th in 2021. Now, India has access to 60 countries without prior visas. In 2021, the visa-free scope was valid for only 58 countries. Oman and Armenia have recently been added to the list of pre-visa requirements.

Japan and Singapore are ranked first, with these passport holders having visa-free access to 192 destinations. Germany and South Korea are ranked second, with passport holders able to visit 190 destinations visa-free.

Finland, Italy, Spain and Luxembourg share third place with a score of 189. Austria, Denmark, Sweden, France and the Netherlands are in fourth place, with a visa-free score of 188. US and UK passports regained their former strength and are now ranked 6th with 186 visa-free or visa-on-arrival.
