Gyanendra Ningombam of Manipur elected first president of Hockey India from Northeast

Gyanendra Ningombam of Manipur has been elected unopposed as the President of Hockey India, while former chairman of the body Mohammad Mushtaq Ahmed has been brought back to the executive board of Hockey India after being elected unopposed.

Hockey’s governing body, Hockey India, held its 10th Hockey India Congress and elections on 6 November 2020, where the newly elected president and vice-president of the body officially took over.

Gyanendra Ningombam, on being elected unopposed, became the first president of Hockey India from the Northeast region. Nyingombam, who has been elected as the chairman for the next two years, has previously held the position of executive chairman after Mohammad Mushtaq Ahmed resigned in July 2020.

The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh has congratulated Mr. Ningombam via Twitter on being elected as the new President of Hockey India from Manipur. While Manipur Hockey has also congratulated him on being elected President of Hockey India.
