Global Hunger Index 2021 : India Places At 101st Position In World

Global Hunger Index 2021: Global Hunger Index released this Thursday has placed India at 101st position out of a total of 116 countries. India is also among 31 countries where the problem of hunger has been recognized as very serious. India was ranked 94 out of a total of 107 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) released last year.

According to this Global Hunger Index, only 15 countries are worse off than India. These include Papua New Guinea (102), Afghanistan (103), Nigeria (103), Congo (105), Mozambique (106), Sierra Leone (106), Timor-Leste (108), Haiti (109), Liberia (110). ), Madagascar (111), Democratic Republic of the Congo (112), Chad (113), Central African Republic (114), Yemen (115) and Somalia (116).

In this Global Hunger Index, India also lags behind most of its neighboring countries, in which Pakistan has been placed at 92nd, Nepal at 76th and Bangladesh at 76th.

Current projections based on the Global Hunger Index (GHI) suggest that by 2030, the world – and 47 countries in particular – will fail to achieve even the goal of less hunger.

The Global Hunger Index tracks key indicators used to measure progress towards zero hunger by 2030 at the national, regional and global levels. Based on the values ​​of four indicators – undernourishment, low child weight, low child height and child mortality – the GHI determines hunger on a 100 point scale, where 0 is the best possible score (not hungry). ) and 100 is the worst score. Each country’s GHI score is graded based on the severity of the hunger problem in that country – from low to extremely dangerous levels.

According to the GHI rankings for the year 2021, Somalia has the highest level of hunger – its GHI score of 50.8 is considered extremely dangerous, the highest level of hunger among the five countries – Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, and Yemen – More than 31 countries that are at dangerous levels of hunger and 31 other countries in which the problem of hunger is at a very serious level.
