ER Sheikh has taken over as the first Director-General of the Directorate of Ordnance (Coordination and Services) on 30 September 2021, the newly created entity to replace the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB). According to the Ministry of Defence, it is the successor organization of the Directorate of Ordnance OFB. The Government of India had dissolved OFB on October 01, 2021 and transferred all its employees including its assets and management to seven newly-established Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
ER Sheikh is an Indian officer of the Ordnance Factory Service (IOFS) of the year 1984-batch. Sheikh has worked for the establishment of a modern production line system for the manufacture of small arms and ammunition at the Ordinance Factory Varangan.
As Deputy Director General (DDG) – Propellant and Explosives, he has supervised several projects related to plant modernization in explosives factories, thereby increasing quality, safety and productivity. He has also led the successful indigenous development of Bi-Modular Charge System (BMCS) for artillery ammunition.
